Investment Committee Chair

Tony Harwood serves as the Investment Committee Chair for TRELI and brings 40+ years of real estate acquisition, development and finance experience to the team.  Tony formed Harwood Associates in 2001 to advise real estate owners and developers in structuring and procuring institutional capital for their investments/projects.  Harwood Associates has also taken active management roles in private equity backed entities that have invested in distressed financial and real estate assets, including under-performing and non-performing loans.  Tony has been on the Board of Premier Capital, LLC, a distressed debt investor, since 1993.

Prior to forming Harwood Associates, Tony led the Boston office of Equitable Real Estate Investment Management (“ERE”), which was the largest pension fund advisor in the U.S. commercial real estate space.  ERE assets exceeded $40 billion and capital clients included life insurance companies, corporate/public pension funds, domestic endowments and foreign funds.  Representative clients included CalPERS, NY State Common Fund, GE Pension Fund, Raytheon and IBM.  Notable projects that Tony oversaw for ERE include the joint venture development of the Four Seasons Hotel and Condos – Boston (273 keys, 100 units), the joint venture development of Rowes Wharf’s Boston Harbor Hotel (232 keys), the acquisition of the Bank of Boston office building and the acquisition of One Boston Place. 


Tony’s hotel portfolio while at ERE spanned approximately 2,000 keys and included Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Four Seasons and independent brands.  Tony earned his BS at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.  He is currently a Director on the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and has previously been on the boards of various organizations such as NAIOP, the Greater Boston YMCA and Friends for City Hall Plaza.
